Learning to pray

It's time to get started.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Romans 8:26
“God shapes the world by prayer.”
“Prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world.” (E. M. Bounds)

Prayer is so vital to our Christian walk, and yet, if we are honest, we must confess that prayer can be a struggle.  What should I pray? Why do I struggle to make time to pray? Why can't I concentrate when I pray?  If you struggle with these questions, you are not alone.  Find some ways to live into what the Apostle Paul told us to do in 1 Thessalonians 5: "Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

Things to try help you grow in your prayer life:
  • Pray the Psalms - Read a Psalm each day and pray through it.
  •  Prayer Journal - Write your prayers out each day in a prayer journal.
  • Read a book on prayer - "Prayer," by Timothy Keller is a great book for this.
  • Watch a video on prayer from RightNow Media by J.D. Greear.
